Meet our Teachers!

Sally Wells

I learned to knit and crochet when I was 13, taking an 8th grade class called “Crafts” and I was hooked!  I still have the very first ascot I knitted in that class.  The first sweater I ever knitted was when I was a freshman in college, for my then boyfriend (and now husband of 50 years).  The sleeves were too long but he rolled them up and wore it anyway.

One of the craziest projects I ever did was to knit 4 ponchos for 4 of my granddaughters one Christmas.  Can you say tedious?  While living in a small town in Virginia from 2003-2007, I decided to open a yarn shop.  For 3 years it became the gathering place for women in the town and introduced many to knitting for the first time.

I enjoyed teaching the classes and socializing.  When we moved I sold the shop and it is still open as far as I know.  We then moved to Massachusetts where I taught knit and crochet classes at Michael’s for awhile.  I look forward to meeting new and experienced knitters at She Sells Yarn!

I’ve been knitting and crocheting for 15 years and have rarely created the same piece twice! I enjoy learning and trying new techniques to stretch my abilities whenever and wherever I can.
Sock knitting has been a recent focus since they combine a lot of techniques in a small project. And they are fun to wear and give away! I also love sharing techniques with others and helping them solve knitting problems.
I have a Masters of Aeronautical Engineering and currently teach undergraduate engineering courses at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Since that’s not enough to keep me busy, I’m also pursuing my MBA and teaching knitting classes!
I live in Ormond Beach with my wife Alicia, two cats, and more yarn than either of us will ever use.

Using a pencil, I taught myself to crochet by watching my mother and her friends when I was just 5 years old.  By the time I was 7, I was selling crocheted jewelry to my friends for a penny; a true entrepreneur!  I continued to crochet but added knitting to my repertoire when I was about 12 so I could knit doll clothing with my friend.  I stopped knitting when I visited a NYC yarn shop and was told that I didn’t know how to knit!  I eventually began knitting again but found that crocheting was my passion and I continue to take classes to enhance my skills.  As a professional educator here in Florida, teaching the art of crochet was a natural. As well as teaching, I use my craft to give charitably to my community by participating in the local prayer shawl ministry for Hospice of Flagler and Volusia Counties.    I look forward to sharing my passion with others at She Sells Yarn and More!
